About the Organization:

The Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, which is owned and operated by Egan Maritime, was established in 1968 and is America's first museum dedicated to honoring lifesavers. It preserves the legacy of Islanders who risked their lives to rescue mariners, featuring inspiring stories from the Massachusetts Humane Society, the US Life-Saving Service, and the Coast Guard.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a friendly, organized, and customer service-oriented individual to be the welcoming face of our museum. This role involves greeting visitors, processing admissions and memberships, providing information about exhibits and programs, and assisting with museum shop sales.

Hours:

The front Desk & Retail Associate will typically be scheduled between 9:30am and 5pm, with occasional evening or special event shifts. The ability to work on Saturdays from 9:30am-2:30pm is required . This is a part-time or full-time seasonal opportunity (minimum 20 hours/week). Duties:

• Greet visitors and assist with admission and program/event ticket sales.
• Manage the front desk, including opening and closing the cash drawer and using Altru (database and POS system).
• Maintain the gift shop by organizing inventory, stocking items, and generating sales reports.
• Promote museum events, membership benefits, and sell memberships during admissions.
• Answer the main phone line and ensure the front area of the museum is clean and welcoming.
• Represent the Egan Maritime Institute in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner to all visitors.
• Work independently, stay organized, and maintain a high level of self-discipline.
• Collaborate professionally with museum staff.
• Conduct museum tours or introductory visitor orientation as needed.

Qualifications:

• Retail or museum experience is helpful but not required.
• Strong organizational and computer skills are essential, with an interest in Nantucket’s art, literature, and maritime legacy.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Reliability and punctuality are required.

Work Environment:

Physical activity, including walking, standing, and lifting, may be required. This is an in-person position.

Housing is available for the right candidate.

Salary: $22-$24 per hour.
