Human resources generalist

Under the general direction of the Director for Employee Engagement & Experience, the HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for managers and staff, providing guidance on employee relations, policies, and day to day HR matters while ensuring a smooth, compliant, and people-centered HR experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Serve as the go-to resource for employees and managers seeking information or clarification on HR policies, workplace procedures, and organizational rules.
- Provide support to employees addressing a wide range of issues, including workplace conditions, interpersonal conflicts, and career development. Handle sensitive matters with empathy and discretion.
- Act as a primary resource for workplace conflicts, facilitating processes to resolve and foster a positive work environment.
- Work closely with managers to assess and confirm the correct classification of workers as employees or contractors.
- Provide guidance related to managing non-student temporary hires, including the evaluation of their employment needs.
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of all federal and state laws and regulations governing employment, as well as all College policies and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Knowledge of Federal, state and local laws and ordinances governing recruitment, employment and equity for faculty and staff.
- Experience with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Google suite.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills; clear, concise, and professional, including the ability to address small and large groups.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands.
- An “out of the box” mindset with the desire to improve processes, tools, and standards .
- Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Must exhibit excellent customer service, integrity, and confidentiality when working with both internal and external customers.
- Experience with recruitment technology platforms and applicant tracking systems (HCM) is preferred.
- Human Resources certifications (e.g. SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, etc.) are preferred.
