Job Description Summary

South Shore Health is looking for an MRI Supervisor and would love to have you join our team! Works in collaboration with multiple staff (technologists, radiologists, nursing, etc.) to optimize patient flow and influence patient and staff satisfaction.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares and maintains MRI Staffing Schedule including vacations and on-call, approves time-off requests according to modality’s policy and procedure guidelines, distributes schedules and posts on web. Coordinates coverage in case of unplanned absences, including call.

2. Oversees all aspects of MRI’s staffing and day-to-day workflow ensuring adherence to Diagnostic Imaging and MRI Policies and Procedures. Is responsible for monitoring training of all new personnel. Works in collaboration with staff to optimize patient flow and influence patient satisfaction. Initiates changes of resources to match workloads as effectively as possible.
3. Reports problems within the site of service of the department to the Executive Director and Radiologist(s) on service. Recognizes potential problems arising in any of the sites of the department involving technical and/or personnel issues, and brings to the attention of the Executive Director as soon as possible.

4. Oversees system maintenance including arranging service time on all modality equipment, ensures documentation of system downtime according to divisional policies.

5. Possesses intricate knowledge of RIS. Is capable of running management reports, editing schedules, editing tech entries, verifying accuracy of billing, booking exams, and reviewing exams at each site.

6. Prepares weekly payroll ensuring accuracy of hours. Provides constructive criticism to technical staff to help develop skills. Serves as mentor and staff resource. Influences and motivates behaviors to achieve desired outcomes. Leads by example.

7. Interviews and recommends hiring, promotion, termination, or disciplinary actions for related staff, in collaboration with Technical Manager, develops annual performance evaluations and competencies. Conducts staff clinical competency assessments.

8. Acts as a resource on behalf of the division in case of outside inspection.

9. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department. 

10. Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources.

11. Effectively utilized resources within established budget; notifies manager of all variances anticipated, or occurred, to maintain department services.

12. Adheres to procedures regarding acquisition of, and payment for, goods and services, as evidenced by appropriate and timely processing requisitions and invoices.

13. Recommends way to reduce expenditures and/or enhance revenues without compromising quality of services.

14. Effectively communicates departmental, organization and industry information to staff.

15. Attends organization’s informational meetings, as evidenced by attendance sheets.

16. Gathers, interprets, and delivers information to staff in a timely fashion.

17. Assures staff understands information as evidenced by staff compliance with, and participation in, Hospital programs, seminars, training and related activities.

18. Communication with staff is effective, resolving conflicts which may hamper relations and productivity, as observed by Executive Director.

19. Uses Hospital communications resources to inform internal and external audiences of departmental news/achievements/policies.

20. Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.

21. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.

22. All required safety education programs have been attended. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.

23. Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately.

24. Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.

25. Responsibly follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens.

26. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.

27. Assures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.

28. Attends annual education programs.

29. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

30. Interacts with all of the above in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner as observed by Executive Director and peers.

31. Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input.

32. Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations

33. Maintains open communication using appropriate chain of command regarding issues.

34. Conducts all work activities with respect for rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families and fellow employees.

35. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times as observed by peers and management.

36. Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and South Shore Health & Educational Corporation policy.

37. Continuously displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at South Shore Health & Educational Corporation.

38. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

39. Participates in staff meetings as determined by Director.

40. Supports in Hospital's mission, policies and procedures through attendance and participation at committee meetings, if applicable.

41. Utilizes automated system to communicate inter and intra departmentally, as appropriate.

42. Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments as observed by Executive Director.

43. Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by Executive Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory/management experience required.

Prior supervisory experience in a diagnostic imaging clinical area

Required Certification

ARRT (American Registry Radiologic Technologists) (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) registration or ARMRIT (The American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) in MRI required.

BLS - Basic Life Support required. Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA). New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification.

Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of the 1.5T and 3T magnets is required to guide staff in performance of their duties. 

Demonstrates superior technical competency and sustained excellence in modality and has knowledge of new advances in the field.

Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Possesses working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications.
