Recreation Counselor

Join our dynamic team as a Parks and Recreation Counselor! Under the guidance of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and Program Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supervising program participants and assisting Parks and Recreation Aides. Your primary responsibility will be to create and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. **Key Responsibilities:**
As a Parks and Recreation Counselor, your day-to-day activities will include: - Engaging with the community by leading daily program activities, including sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, DJ programs, STEM initiatives, special events, and teen center programs.
- Collaborating with Program Coordinators to establish schedules and review progress on a regular basis.
- Serving as a positive role model for all participants, encouraging active participation in program activities.
- Managing the opening and closing procedures for Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Taking daily attendance of participants and assisting Aides with maintaining a clean and organized program area.
- Reporting any issues or concerns to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Educating participants on safety principles and techniques to prevent injuries during activities. **Qualifications:**
- **Education:** High School Diploma required; candidates currently enrolled in a college or university majoring in recreational studies, sports management, education, or physical education are strongly preferred.
- **Experience:** A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in recreation or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.
- **Certifications:** First Aid/CPR and AED certification (training will be provided). **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
- **Knowledge:** Familiarity with various recreational activities and the goals of community recreational programs, including sports, games, arts and crafts, and other engaging subjects.
- **Ability:** Strong teamwork skills, effective problem-solving capabilities, and clear communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- **Skills:** Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, along with strong conflict resolution and communication abilities. **Work Environment:**
The work environment is primarily office-based with occasional exposure to outdoor elements. While there may be some distractions, conditions are generally comfortable. Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate evening meetings or special events. **Physical and Mental Requirements:**
- **Physical Skills:** The role involves minimal physical demands, primarily sitting, with occasional walking, standing, and some agility required for activities in various environments. Lifting of objects up to 30 lbs. may be necessary.
- **Motor Skills:** Duties require both mental and physical engagement, including moving objects, participating in recreational activities, and operating office equipment.
- **Visual Skills:** Regular reading of documents for understanding and analysis is required. **Position Details:**
