Council on Aging Director
Job Overview
The Town of West Newbury is seeking qualified applicants for the position Council on Aging (COA) Director. This position directs and oversees the programs and operations of the West Newbury Council on Aging (“COA”) and Senior Center (“SAGE”) and supports the administration of other human services programs available to non-senior citizens.
Duties
- Plans and organizes social, health, recreational, and educational programs, including creating marketing material and communicating with vendors
- Plans and attends COA Board meetings; recommends Board actions; presents monthly report of program statistics and financials.
- Responsibilities include outreach and communications, website content management, newsletter production, and maintaining mail and email distribution lists.
- Supports the administration of additional human services and programs serving non-senior residents.
- Conducts home visits to residents requiring assistance, determines needs, and provides follow-up communication as appropriate
- Oversees Meals on Wheels program in coordination with the Nutrition Program Coordinator
- Files annual report and any required information to Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA)
- Maintains contact/visibility with State and regional associations and advocates
- Undertakes and performs additional tasks and projects as assigned within the scope of operations of the Council on Aging and Senior (SAGE) Center.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in gerontology, social work, or related field, and 3-5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
- Knowledge of state and local laws and regulations related to elder services, strong understanding of elder needs and available resources, and the ability to advocate effectively for older adults in a variety of situations.
- Experience researching funding opportunities, preparing grant proposals, and securing and managing grants from multiple sources.
- Ability and willingness to be bonded and have a driver’s license.
- Ability and willingness to pursue ServSafe Certification and CPR/AED Certification.
