Are you an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a mission driven, detail oriented, and collaborative environment? Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) is seeking a Senior Accountant to help ensure the financial integrity and operational excellence of a dynamic nonprofit serving more than 15,000 individuals annually.
This position follows a hybrid schedule, working on-site Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.
In this highly visible role, you will support timely and accurate financial reporting, lead key components of the monthly and annual close processes, and help maintain strong internal controls within a complex nonprofit environment. You will bring strong analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance - all of which support our mission and strengthen our fiscal stewardship.
This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is energized by detailed accounting work, enjoys cross departmental collaboration, and is passionate about contributing to the financial health of a mission aligned organization.

Financial Reporting, Audit Support & Compliance
Working closely with the Controller and Finance team, the Senior Accountant supports the production of timely, accurate financial reporting that meets both internal management needs and nonprofit regulatory requirements. The role:
- Prepares detailed backup, schedules, and explanations for internal and external audits, including audits tied to government funding
- Helps maintain well organized accounting records
- Contributes to a strong internal control environment, ensuring the organization remains fully compliant with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and federal and state regulatory standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Program Support
The Senior Accountant will work collaboratively with program staff and administrative teams to ensure accurate transaction coding, proper alignment of expenses with funding requirements, and clarity around program specific financial activity. This role provides responsive guidance to staff, helping them interpret financial results and understand accounting processes. The Senior Accountant also helps identify opportunities to strengthen data quality, streamline workflows, and enhance cross departmental financial literacy.
Continuous Improvement & Special Projects
The Senior Accountant contributes to continuous improvement by:
- participating in special projects
- conducting ad hoc analysis
- supporting enhancements to accounting systems, tools, and processes
- helping refine workflows connected to grant accounting, restricted revenues, audit preparation, and month end close
With an analytical mindset and proactive problem-solving approach, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in strengthening the Finance function and supporting operational excellence across the organization.
