Maternal Recovery Specialist

Families In Recovery Support (FIRST) Steps Together provides parent-child therapy and peer support to address the impact of substance use and trauma on parent’s mental health, the early parent-child relationship, and infant development. Staff help pregnant and new mothers meet the dual challenges of parenting and recovery from substance use. We are one of six sites in Massachusetts funded by the Department of Public Health.

Maternal Recovery Specialists (MRS) are responsible for providing home visiting services to offer recovery coaching, support, education, treatment planning, referrals and case management to pregnant and new mothers. The Maternal Recovery Specialist reports to the Program Supervisor for individual and group supervision.

Your workday will include:

• Home visits to parents who are building their recovery capital, their social supports, and their parenting skills
• Working in collaboration with clinicians to support assigned caseload of parents.
• Enhancing parents’ well-being by meeting them in the community when needed and supporting their connection to community resources by providing information, connecting to recovery groups, and referring to treatment when needed.
• Working with supervisor and FIRST Steps team to develop, implement and revise family treatment plans as they relate to Maternal Recovery Specialist services.
• Participating actively in weekly formal individual and monthly group supervision and adhere to daily supervisory check-ins.
• Maintaining accurate and timely case records in accordance with program guidelines.
• Participating in Team, Division, and FIRST Steps Together state-wide team meetings as required
• Participating in and obtain required certificates to advance training regarding job skills
• Participating in all required FIRST Steps Together and JF&CS trainings and organizational staff development programs.
• Performing additional duties as needed or requested.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

• Personal experience in recovery and parenting required.
• One year work experience in a recovery-oriented setting required.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively and engage with high-risk mothers and their families.
• Willingness to work with a diverse population.
• Access to a car and a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel with Massachusetts.
• Maturity, flexibility, ability to work independently and strong interpersonal skills.
• Certification as a peer recovery coach strongly preferred; willingness to obtain upon hire
