Software Engineer I
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer to join an established technology team in Boston, MA or Belllevue, WA . At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents (and partners) everywhere. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to work with a talented group of backend and frontend engineers, product managers, and business leaders in an Agile environment, develop impactful software capabilities to enhance or create new functionality needed to grow Chewy. In this role, the ideal candidate will engage in development, testing, and make contributions to the growth and development of one of Chewy’s fastest growing areas. They will have the opportunity to be part of a high performing engineering team where we value broad-based technical skills.
What You’ll Do:
- Actively participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionality using an agile methodology
- Partner with stakeholders and technology teams on how best to implement desired features and enhancement
- Actively participate in architecture and code reviews to deliver high quality code
- Collaborate to identify, isolate, and resolve malfunctions related to software
- Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams
- Take responsibility and ownership of project timelines and deliverables
- Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshooting production issues and contribute to operational excellence
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent work experience
- 1+ years of Software Engineering experience.
- Experience developing software componets and/or services by use of the following technologies: Java/Kotlin, NextJS, Terraform
- Experience with building, deploying, testing APIs and micro-services
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders
- Must be team oriented and have a customer first mindset
Bonus (if applicable):
- Experience with agile methodologies a plus
- Experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Ansible etc)
- Knowledge/experience of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices
