Lead Clinical Pharmacist Chestnut Hill Urgent Care & Ambulatory Specialties

The Chestnut Hill Ambulatory Site Lead Pharmacist will oversee medication management and utilization for the BIDMC licensed spaces in Chestnut Hill. These will include urgent care orthopedics ophthalmology OB/GYN GI Allergy and urology. Primary clinical responsibilities will include complex medication history and management for urgent care patients and patient counseling as needed. Drug information staff education and care coordination for specialty clinics are other primary responsibilities. Operationally the lead pharmacist will oversee receipt of medications for clinic & Omnicell storage coordination of supply with the BIDMC pharmacy purchasing team and site medication storage oversight. This is an opportunity for autonomous oversight of pharmacy services at an Urgent Care and Specialty Clinics. Schedule Monday Friday daytime no Holidays/Weekends.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Practices pharmacy and maintains credentials in accordance with laws rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy Department of Public Health U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
2. Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis weight/body surface area age allergies organ function laboratory values medication duplication drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate incomplete or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner.
3. Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care.
4. Provides drug information to physicians nurses and other health care professionals. Responsible for dissemination of information and ongoing interdisciplinary education related to a specific practice site or core area of practice.
5. Checks and verifies sterile and non-sterile medications.
6. Supervises the activities of students technicians and residents within the pharmacist area of practice. May precept pharmacy student and resident rotations as well as resident-led quality improvement projects.
7. Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses.
8. Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring including follow-up and documentation as well as other daily patient care initiatives and relevant reports.
9. Works collaboratively with all pharmacists pharmacy technicians and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department.
10. Actively monitors selected quality assurance metrics related to cleanroom operations and other practice measures.
11. May participate in hiring staff development scheduling and evaluation of pharmacy personnel.
12. Serves on departmental committees to improve process and quality outcomes including leading or participating in medication use evaluation or cost-savings initiatives.
13. Participates in the investigation of medication errors and supports the implementation of corrective actions as needed.
14. Coordinates the maintenance service and troubleshooting of local technologies during working hours including but not limited to; Automated Dispensing Cabinets Electronic Temperature Monitoring and USP <797> and <800> compliant cleanroom facilities. Escalates to pharmacy department leadership appropriately.
15. Supports compliance and readiness with regulatory and accreditation bodies; Joint Commission CMS DPH QOPI USP <797> USP <795> .
16. May participate in On-Call rotation on behalf of the department.
17. Regularly participates in department initiatives including but not limited to supporting formulary stewardship (including drug shortage management) presenting new medication requests at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee creating and maintaining policies and procedures conducting assessments of workflows and/or developing of departmental tools and resources.
18. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelors degree in pharmacy required.
2. Massachusetts Pharmacist License required.
3. 3 years experience as a licensed pharmacist required in a related practice setting.
4. Strong analytical skills defining work problems and designing a system of procedures to resolve problems.
5. Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills necessary to educate and supervise staff. Independent thinker with good judgment and constant triaging ability.
6. Ability to handle non-routine tasks.
7. Ability to confront difficult issues and to solve problems.
8. Ability to work accurately to meet deadlines and consistently make sound decisions that fall within satisfactory boundaries.
9. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred.
2. Advanced degree (MS MBA MHA) training (residency or fellowship) or additional certifications.
3. Board certification in a relevant area of practice (i.e. BCPS BCOP BCSCP)
Pay Range:
$65.28 - $82.79The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors that may include seniority education training relevant experience relevant certifications geographyof work location job responsibilities or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials call pay premium pay overtime pay and other additional pay practices as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
