Job Title: Night Receptionist

Location: Old South Church, 645 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02116

Reports to: Director of Operations

Schedule: Mondays and Tuesdays, 4:00-10:00 PM, and Wednesdays 3:00-10:00 PM

Position Overview

Old South Church is seeking a friendly, reliable, and organized individual to serve as our Night Receptionist . As the first point of contact during evening hours, The Night Receptionist welcomes visitors, answers questions, and maintains the safety and hospitality of our historic church building.

Old South Church is a historic, progressive, open and affirming congregation (LGBTQ+ friendly) of the United Church of Christ (UCC).

Key Responsibilities

• Warmly greet visitors, members, and staff during evening hours.
• Provide general information about Old South Church, including its history, values, and current activities.
• Monitor building entrance points and maintain a calm, secure front desk presence.
• Answer phone calls, offer information, and provide a listening ear.
• Process sales of postcards and Old South memorabilia. Maintain accurate transaction records during your shift.
• Record visitors and enforce building guidelines (e.g., no food or drink, quiet in the Sanctuary).
• Keep the front desk area clean, organized, and well-maintained.
• Point of contact in case of emergency.

Qualifications

• Friendly, professional, and welcoming demeanor.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail.
• Willingness to learn about the church’s mission, values, and history.
• Basic computer and phone skills.
• Prior receptionist or customer service experience is a plus, but not required.

Position Details

• Pay : Starts at $19/hr.
• Hours: Part-time, in-person, non-exempt
• Additional Opportunities: Occasional Sunday morning shifts may be available
