Ambassador - 90 Days STS (Boston Region)
Start/End Dates: 6/7/2026 to 8/15/2026 (90 days)/* / *Work Hours: 40 hours - Varied work shifts, including weekends and holidays, required. Location: DCR Headquarters 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking Ambassadors to support seasonal high-profile events scheduled at our parks this summer. This position is central to delivering exceptional visitor experiences during major statewide and international events, including Tall Ships 2026, Massachusetts 250 (MA250) commemorations, FIFA World Cup Watch Parties, and other large-scale public gatherings. Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays. Please Note: Salary range compensation by hours worked is determined by several factors, including experience, seniority, the agency's budget, and the nature of the role (e.g., short-term contract vs. full-time position). For union positions, salary is determined in accordance with the applicable bargaining unit's salary schedule and governing regulations. (salary is $17.00 per hour non-negotiable). General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking dynamic, customer-focused individuals to serve as seasonal Park Ambassadors supporting high-profile and special events, enhancing visitor experiences and researching customer-related projects across the Boston, North, and South Regions. This role is central to delivering exceptional visitor experiences during major statewide and international events, including Tall Ships 2026, Massachusetts 250 (MA250) commemorations, FIFA World Cup Watch Parties, and other large-scale public gatherings. Park Ambassadors serve as the front-line presence of DCR-welcoming visitors, providing information, supporting event logistics, assisting visitors of all abilities, and helping maintain clean, safe, and accessible park environments.* * Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: * Visitor Engagement & Customer Service: Serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable point of contact for visitors. Provide information on park amenities, events, programs, and policies. Engage with diverse audiences in a professional and inclusive manner Communicate effectively with visitors; ability to speak additional languages is highly valued * Environmental Stewardship Advocacy: Educate the public on the "Leave No Trace" principles and the EEA's mission of environmental justice while managing increased foot traffic. * Operational Logistics: Operate light vehicles to transport supplies and equipment between various event locations and regional event hubs as required by the Supervisor. * Crowd Management & Public Safety Support : Assist with managing visitor flow during high-attendance events and peak visitation periods. Post (and remove) directional signage to guide visitors on site. Promote safe use of park facilities and adherence to guidelines. Identify and report safety, maintenance, or operational concerns. * Administrative Support: Park Ambassadors will be assigned administrative projects to support Special Events and Visitor Services. Ability to prepare documents and reports accurately. Assists with processing reports, special events applications, and permits. Critical Requirements: * * *Availability: Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays, specifically during major statewide and international events, including July 4th Celebrations, Tall Ships 2026, Massachusetts 250 (MA250) commemorations, DCR Movies in the Parks, Revere Beach Sandcastle Festival, FIFA World Cup Watch Parties, and other large-scale public gatherings. * Adaptability: Ability to pivot between numerous tasks to provide exceptional visitor services. Park Ambassadors will be assigned to work at multiple locations throughout the season. * Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills; multi-lingual skills are a high-value asset given the 2026 international draw. * Multi-Tasking: Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to work as a team player as well as independently. Required Qualifications: * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. * Ability to work effectively with diverse population. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to speak a second language. * Excellent customer service skills are a plus. Working Environment and Schedule: * Primarily working outdoors and in a park setting. * One to two times per week will report to 10 Park Plaza, Boston (DCR Headquarters). * Includes working evenings, weekends and holidays. * Schedules will be variable; changing from week to week to meet operational needs. * Walking or standing for lengthy periods of time. * Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments. * Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. * Ability to engage with diverse audiences in a friendly and professional manner. * Park Ambassadors will be required to wear assigned uniform and comply with DCR Uniform Policy.
