Security Officer

SUMMARY
St. Mark’s School of Southborough is expanding its Campus Safety and Security Team to include additional Security Officers. This role works as part of a collaborative team to implement the School’s safety policies and procedures, enforce preventative safety measures, and respond to situations that require a security or emergency response.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct routine patrols (on foot) of campus, including academic, residential/student life, and extracurricular spaces. Additional patrol of West Campus buildings and fields as deemed necessary.
  • Enforce existing safety and security policies, as well as any applicable federal, state, and local laws; collaborate with the Director of Campus Safety and Security to assess and evolve policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Respond to requests for assistance on lock-outs, alarms, ill or injured student transport to health center, incidents of strangers on campus, theft, vandalism, etc.
  • Accurate and timely documentation, follow-up, and reporting of incidents to supervisor and applicable Administrators, and/or local emergency services as applicable.
  • Monitor electronic surveillance tools; maintain upkeep of batteries and recording, connections, etc.
  • Manage schoolwide badge system (used for access and identification); this includes badge production/replacement badges, managing door lock/unlock schedules, and collaboration with IT on resolving any badge-reader issues.
  • Act as onsite liaison to the Southborough Police and Fire Department during incidents or drills.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Campus Safety and Security and the School Administrative team on drills, emergency response, and effective, regular safety training for students and adults.
  • Monitor use of the campus by outside groups (rentals, camps, visitors, events, etc)
  • Effectively use tools required for the job, including cell phone, apps related to door access and camera function, walkie-talkie radios, or additional technology and tools.
  • Support routine facility service requests and maintenance of life safety equipment; examples include resetting a breaker, turning off a water main, checking fire extinguishers or AEDs, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety and Security.

Minimum Job Requirements & Skills Required:

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and sound reasoning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort and proficiency with technology
  • Initiative to learn new skills (e.g. new technologies, systems, or procedures) and willingness to engage in education/training as applicable
  • Desire to be an active member of the community; ability to forge relationships with the students and adults who live on campus and attend school daily

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Able to lift at least 50lbs
  • Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time; climb stairs
  • Must pass a criminal background and CORI/SORI check

WEEKEND DAY / EVENING SHIFTS AVAILABLE

COMPENSATION:
$23 - $26 per hour
