Summary of position:

The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.

Camp Baker at The Baker Center for Children and Families (The Baker Center) is a program premised on the Summer Treatment Program (STP), a Model Program for Service Delivery for Child and Family Mental Health created by the Section on Clinical Child Psychology and Division of Child, Youth, and Family Services of the American Psychological Association. The Camp Baker summer graduate position provides trainees with the opportunity to receive didactic learning in the STP model, implementation of the complex behavioral system with a group of children, experience taking behavioral data, using data to create individualized treatment plans, formal group supervision, and informal individual supervision.

The dates of employment for the Graduate Classroom Teacher position are Monday, July 6, 2026, through Friday, August 21, 2026. The Graduate Classroom Teacher's hours of employment will be from 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. In addition, the Graduate Classroom Teacher will continue to work until 6:00pm one evening each week while caregivers participate in parent training sessions.

Responsibilities :

• Implement an extensive behavior modification treatment program during classroom activities. The program includes feedback and associated consequences for work productivity and classroom behavior, daily and weekly rewards for appropriate behavior, social praise and attention, appropriate commands, and age-appropriate removal from positive reinforcement.
• Deliver the treatment components during four daily academic periods Monday through Thursday. Classroom activities should focus on improving children’s on-task behavior, following teacher directives, increasing social-emotional skills, and exhibiting appropriate classroom behavior.
• Plan and conduct teaching topics (e.g., bullying preventions, academic content, social-emotional content) for 30 minutes of daily instruction and 10 minutes of daily seatwork. Assign 5-minute homework assignments individualized to each child’s abilities and learning needs.

Learning Objectives :

• Participate in week-long didactic training on behavior modification principles and orientation to treatment approach and intervention components.
• Supervise two Teaching Assistants who will assist with academic instruction, seatwork completion, classroom management, lesson planning, and record-keeping.
• Work under the supervision of the Director of Camp Baker and work closely with doctor-level clinicians and other experienced Camp Baker staff members while receiving regular feedback about performance to ensure high quality of service delivery.
• Identify and implement individualized academic goals for children when needed.

Training:

• Must be able to use physical management procedures to help maintain the safety of children ages 6-12. Due to this aspect of the position, Undergraduate Counselors will come into close contact with campers and other staff and will be unable to socially distance.
• Abides by policies and procedures regarding the behavioral modification program, daily classroom activities, and the physical management of, and injuries to, campers.

Qualifications

Education:

• Master’s degree in Education/Special Education, licensed teacher, or working toward licensure.
• Enrolled in a graduate-level program in School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Education/Special Education, or a related field of study, or extensive experience in related programs.

Experience:

• Experience working in special education classrooms, with children with behavioral or emotional difficulties, or experience running social-emotional groups with children.
• Experience working with children or adolescents in settings such as summer camps, after-school programs, sports programs, daycare programs, and/or educational programs is preferred.
• Based on the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic, a fully effective vaccination with the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a pre-condition to employment .
