Medical Assistant, Lead
- Promotes a positive work environment through role-modeling effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Facilitates patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Actively participates in the MA EPIC Super User meetings and shares updates with MA staff.
- Ensures the documentation of necessary safety and regulatory checks (i.e. weekly eye wash station checks, daily temperature logs, QC of lab equipment) have been completed.
- Assist in the scheduling of required training sessions for MA staff and ensure staff attendance.
- Actively participates in new MA orientation and training, and works collaboratively with the Nurse Practice Administrator to ensure that basic skill and competency requirements are met.
- In collaboration with the Nurse Practice Administrator and RN charge nurse, assigns lunch, break,
- Collaborates with the Ambulatory MA Trainer and Clinical Manager to identify training needs.
- Assist with the roll-out of new initiatives.
- Identify and help resolve clinic staff and operational issues.
- Supports teamwork, and generates a positive attitude between front and back office staff.
- Rooms patients, and participates in basic MA duties to facilitate flow during busy clinic days and as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Actively and efficiently manage the flow of patients through the clinic:
- Pre-visit chart medical record preparation and information gathering to optimize the visit.
- Participate in team huddles and team meetings.
- Assist providers with medical histories
- Appropriate documentation in the electronic health record
- Check routine vital signs and point of care testing (based on patient’s reason for visit, age and diagnosis
- Perform screening questionnaires and pain score, as needed
- Update computerized reminders and snapshot * Review and update overdue health maintenance and open orders
- Actively communicates with patients to set expectations, e.g., wait times, what to expect during visit.
- Provides clear and timely observations to providers regarding patient issues.
- Manages room cleaning, stocking, set-up, and turnover.
- Book screening tests as part of the outreach process (e. g., mammograms, colonoscopies) and occasionally books follow up appointments (e.g., well child visits, vaccine booster visits).
- Participates in proactive population management of chronic diseases by generating My Chart messages, sending templated letters, and calling patients by telephone.
- Tracks completion of certain patient tests.
- Participate in shared medical appointments, including recording history and findings into the electronic health record.
- Participates in the education of students and residents by explaining the MA role and allowing observation of their work for training purposes.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in staff meetings, MA meetings and continuing education sessions.
- Assist co-workers in their duties within the limitations of training and scope of practice
- Other duties as required.
