Job Title: Activities Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Resident Services
Hours: 20 hours per week (Tuesday–Friday, 12:00–5:00 p.m.)
Compensation: $20 per hour
Locations: Casselman House and The John W. Weeks House, Newton Centre
Position Summary
The Activities Coordinator plays a key role in creating a vibrant and welcoming community for older adults and adults with disabilities. This position focuses on developing and leading recreational and social programs that encourage connection, creativity, and wellness. Working closely with the Resident Services Coordinator, the Activities Coordinator ensures that residents have opportunities to stay active, engaged, and socially connected within their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate recreational, social, and cultural activities such as arts and crafts, discussion groups, group games, and celebrations.
- Promote programs through various media including creative flyers, posters, and monthly activity calendars.
- Conduct outreach to residents to encourage participation, including phone calls, door-to-door visits, and community engagement efforts.
- Prepare and maintain community spaces for activities, including setup, cleanup, and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere during all programs by engaging residents and supporting participation at all ability levels.
- Monitor activities to ensure safety, comfort, and enjoyment for all participants, addressing concerns or conflicts as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience planning or leading recreational and social activities (experience with older adults preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to motivate and engage individuals with a range of abilities and interests.
- Creative mindset with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer and design skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Canva, or similar tools) helpful for creating promotional materials.
