This role bridges library science, instructional design, and digital pedagogy to advance teaching and learning across the curriculum.

Why Join Us

Our evolving vision for teaching and learning emphasizes information literacy, digital fluency, and reflective engagement with emerging ideas and technologies.

As a residential school, we approach faculty work holistically. Faculty engage with students both in and beyond the classroom, building meaningful relationships that extend across academic, co-curricular, and residential life.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Dean of Academics/Assistant Head of School, the Director of Library and Digital Learning is a key member of the Academics Office team.

  • Partner with faculty to design, teach, or co-teach learning experiences that integrate research, information literacy, and digital skills
  • Identify and align library and technology standards within the curriculum and recommend programmatic enhancements

Faculty Development & Partnerships

  • Work one-on-one with faculty and collaboratively with departments to support meaningful, transformative uses of technology in teaching and learning
  • Support new and returning faculty through targeted onboarding and training initiatives

Library Program & Space Leadership

  • Support the ongoing development of the Library as a vibrant, inclusive academic hub for students and faculty
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Assistant Librarian to assess and evolve the collection in response to curricular and community needs
  • Champion the Library as a center for inquiry, collaboration, and intellectual exploration

Digital Platforms & Systems

  • Oversee the academic use of key digital platforms, including Canvas and Blackbaud, in partnership with the Academics Office
  • Assess classroom technologies and digital systems, identifying needs for improvement, alignment, and faculty support
  • Manage the Library and Academic Technology budgets

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a strategic and ethical thought leader in the use of AI, emerging technologies, and digital pedagogy
  • Demonstrate deep familiarity with an LMS (e.g., Canvas) and strong grounding in instructional design principles
  • Have experience with library management systems and digital research tools
  • Bring an academic lens to the use and management of SIS and LMS platforms
  • Have experience engaging students as collaborators and thought partners
  • Demonstrate success leading transformational, mission-aligned change in educational settings
  • Show a strong understanding of adolescent development and research-based teaching practices
  • Collaborate enthusiastically across disciplines and contribute fully to the life of a boarding school community
  • Teach one class as a member of an academic department, coach one season, and serve as an advisor
  • Engage actively in residential life and student programming beyond the classroom
  • Communicate with clarity, empathy, and optimism when working with students, families, and colleagues
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice in library and digital learning and emerging technologies

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least five years of experience in a 9–12 educational setting
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, or a related field

Why You'll Love It Here

  • A welcoming, close-knit community of students and colleagues who value connection, collaboration, and curiosity
  • Comprehensive benefits, including housing, meals, health coverage, and tuition remission
  • Access to beautiful campus facilities, from the fitness center to wooded walking trails
  • The opportunity to shape the future of teaching and learning at St. Mark's, guiding how students and faculty engage with information, technology, and emerging technologies in a mission-aligned, thoughtful way
