Clerk - Building Department
This Clerk position performs administrative, clerical, and technical work to support the daily operations of the Building Department and assist the Building Commissioner. Duties include skilled clerical work, permitting administration, accounts payable processing, records management, and coordination of departmental activities necessary to ensure efficient office operations and regulatory compliance. The position provides customer service to residents, contractors, and the general public; maintains departmental records and databases; and supports departmental financial, permitting, and inspection functions. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Job Wages: $22.23 - $25.78 Per Hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides customer service to residents, contractors, and City staff by assisting with permitting questions, applications, and departmental inquiries in person, by phone, email, and written correspondence.
- Reviews, processes, tracks, and issues building and electrical permits using electronic and paper permitting systems, and communicates permit status and compliance requirements to applicants.
- Performs administrative and operational support for the Building Commissioner and inspectors, including preparing correspondence, maintaining records, conducting research, and assisting with zoning and code-related matters.
- Maintains departmental records, files, website content, permit documentation, inspection schedules, and public resources in accordance with applicable regulations and records retention requirements.
- Performs financial and administrative functions, including accounts payable, purchase orders, fee collection and deposits, payroll preparation, budget tracking, and assistance with annual budget and year-end financial processes.
- Coordinates annual inspection programs and performs other related administrative duties necessary to support the daily operations of the Building Department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent required, with one (1) to three (3) years of administrative, clerical, or municipal office experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Municipal permitting, inspectional services, or governmental finance experience preferred.
