Job Summary

INVESTIGATOR IN THE BASIC NEUROSCIENCE DIVISION (BND)
AT MCLEAN HOSPITAL

The Department of Psychiatry at Mass General Brigham (MGB) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level from qualified individuals engaged in basic, preclinical systems neuroscience research aimed to improve understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of neuropsychiatric, neurodevelopmental or substance use disorders.

The position is based at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital with the largest research program of its kind in the United States. The preclinical research community at McLean offers basic, cell, molecular, and systems neuroscience approaches, complementing neuroimaging, translational and clinical neuroscience targeting a variety of conditions, including (but not limited to) mood and anxiety disorders, drug- and alcohol-related substance use disorders, eating disorders, developmental disorders (e.g., autism), and neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer's disease).

We seek an investigator with a track record of innovation and excellence in basic systems neuroscience research, with particular emphasis on how whole-body effectors (neurosteroids, inflammatory cytokines) regulate responses to stress, as well as experience with participating in translational collaborations that bridge the gap between studies in animal models and in humans. Opportunities exist for developing strong collaborations within McLean Hospital and across the MGB and HMS systems.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or professional doctorate, appropriate postdoctoral experience, and a record of extramural funding and publications indicative of demonstrated expertise.

Candidates must either meet the academic criteria for appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. The position offers affiliation with a large clinical and basic neuroscience research program and research infrastructure support. Salary and recruitment package in accordance with Hospital policies, and a Harvard Medical School appointment at the academic rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (full or part-time) will be contingent on meeting the requirements for an HMS appointment and candidate qualifications, including a Massachusetts medical license and being board-certified/board-eligible.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and/or maintain a competitive, independent, and largely externally funded research program and engage in supervision, training, and educational activities that support their program while enriching the MGB and HMS communities.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and a concise statement of research interests. Materials should be submitted by email ( [email protected],edu ) but addressed to:
