Our client in the construction industry is seeking a hands-on, experienced Controller to lead the accounting and finance function. This is a great opportunity for a strong accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment and can balance strategic oversight with day-to-day execution.
The ideal candidate will have a proven background in accounting leadership, strong technical skills, and the ability to roll up their sleeves and manage the details while supporting broader business objectives. Construction industry experience is a requirement, and experience with Sage Intacct is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners
- Monitor job costing, revenue recognition, and project financial performance
- Support operational leaders with financial reporting and insight to drive business decisions
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and reporting capabilities
- Assist with strategic planning and provide financial guidance to leadership
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership responsibility
- Previous experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller preferred
- Construction industry experience
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and internal controls
- Experience with job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project-based financial reporting is highly valued
- Sage Intacct experience is highly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong overall systems proficiency required
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and operate in a hands-on capacity
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across departments and with executive leadership

• Experience working in a Controller or senior-level accounting capacity.• Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures and financial reconciliation practices.
• Familiarity with sales and use tax processes and related documentation requirements.
• Hands-on experience with document control, records organization, and document scanning.
• High level of accuracy when compiling, reviewing, and maintaining business records.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a structured environment.
• Proficiency with standard accounting systems and digital document management tools.
