As part of Knowledge Management and Innovation, the Research Services Department serves the firm’s research and information retrieval needs by leveraging state-of-the-art research technologies to deliver valuable insight, information, and support. The Practice Liaison Research Manager is an integral member of this team responsible for managing and coordinating research services to support the firm’s practice groups. The Practice Liaison Research Manager is responsible for the virtual management and mentoring of our national Practice Liaison Team, ensuring the research and information needs of the firm’s practice groups are met efficiently and effectively. This is a hybrid position requiring regular in‑office presence. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to one of our Troutman Pepper Locke offices. Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Administer staffing and scheduling needs of the Practice Liaison Team.
- Develop and administer performance expectations and standard workflow processes.
- Manage the delivery of research services to practice groups; provide resource and research strategy recommendations; perform quality control oversight of work product, ensuring the quality and accuracy of research deliverables, maintaining high standards of excellence.
- Collaborate with practice groups to develop and implement research strategies and customized research and information solutions that support their needs and objectives.
- Conduct regular assessments of practice group research needs and adjust services accordingly.
- Identify opportunities for professional growth, facilitate skills development, and provide mentorship for Practice Liaison team members.
- Generate and present regular reports on research activities, including metrics on service delivery and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with Research Services management team to identify and implement best practices in legal research to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with other teams in the Knowledge Management & Innovation Department in support of the department’s mission and goals.
- Effectively lead and communicate, delivering high-quality research solutions with exemplary customer service.
- Ensure that all research activities comply with firm policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
- Remain current on technological enhancements that contribute toward providing sophisticated research services; participate in testing, evaluating, and selecting new research tools and advise on the cancellation or reduction of existing tools; offer consistent training and updates to the team on new product developments and enhancements.
- Participate in professional associations, actively engage in professional programs and events and encourage participation by Practice Liaison Team.
- Promote and uphold the highest professional and customer service standards.
- Maintain confidential information.
- Travel may be required.
- Work occasionally may require after hours and weekend coverage to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Extensive knowledge of current legal research tools, databases, and methodologies.
- Strong legal research skills, including proficiency in using legal research databases and tools.
- Knowledge and expertise with generative AI solutions, both general and legal research related.

- Substantive knowledge of the law and legal bibliography.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research software.
- Masters degree in Library Science, Information Science, or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in legal research.
- Minimum three (3) years in a leadership or management role.
