Pharmacist, Oral Anticancer Education
Overview
The Oral Anticancer Education Pharmacist II is responsible for providing education to patients starting oral anticancer agents and other specialty medications in the home setting. The Oral Anticancer Education Pharmacist II will work collaboratively with other disciplines to optimize the pharmaceutical care of these patients and to ensure that patients receive follow-up monitoring to assess adherence and toxicity. The Oral Anticancer Education Pharmacist II will perform the day-to-day operations necessary to ensure that patients are contacted and taught in a timely manner. In addition, this role will train new staff to the program and the PGY2 oncology pharmacy residents during their OAE rotation.
This position's work location is fully remote, never on campus. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI). PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Practices as a pharmacist in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations, and standards. Provides comprehensive education to patients and caregivers receiving oral anticancer therapies and other specialty medications and participates in the maintenance of patient education materials Ensures medication orders and/or prescriptions for appropriateness, accuracy and completeness based on patient-specific parameters and clinical data. Provides clinical consultation and evidenced based recommendations for treatment plans, supportive care, dose adjustments and monitoring plans to clinicians regarding pharmacotherapy needs for patients based on literature, clinical practice guidelines and institutional standards. Collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary team through workflow and patient care related meetings.
Documents clinical care activities in the specialty management system and EHR and effectively communicate all recommendations and changes in care plan to the staff involved in patient care. Participates in clinical administrative duties such as formulary addition/ change requests and presentation to P&T committee(s), patient record auditing, metrics reporting, and other departmental or strategic initiatives. Participates in scholarly and educational activities according to departmental expectations (e.g., quality/process improvement, in-services, resident precepting, patient education sheets, clinical research, continuing education program presentations. Participates in the development of workflow design, teaching documents, education and/or monitoring tools, and other initiatives that will improve and/or expand the program. Other duties and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The Oral Anticancer Education Pharmacist II must meet the following requirements to be hired and maintain their position in the Pharmacy Department at DFCI.
Minimum Education:
All Pharmacists require a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy.
Minimum Experience:
3 years of hospital pharmacy with at least one year in oncology or patient education experience. Or three years outpatient/specialty pharmacy experience with at least one year specialty pharmacy patient education experience. Experience in oral anticancer education preferred or completion of a PGY1 residency.
License/Certification/Registration:
Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

- Demonstrated critical thinking skills (ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgement).
- Ability to resolve common problems within their scope of practice and to escalate appropriately when needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises pharmacy benefits specialists and support staff as needed in the provision of patient care.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
