Job Title
ESOL Student Liaison & Employment Specialist (Comprehensive Refugee Employment Services)
Location: Hybrid (Remote, Lowell Office, and local travel in Lowell/Lawrence and surrounding areas)
Background
The New American Association of Massachusetts (NAAM) is a nonprofit organization providing social support services to refugees and immigrants across Massachusetts. Core services include ESOL classes, employment assistance, case management, citizenship preparation, youth programming, and wellness initiatives.
Purpose
This position supports refugee and immigrant clients through employment services and ESOL student engagement, promoting successful integration and self-sufficiency. The role focuses on Lowell and the development of services in the Lowell/Lawrence region and supports employment services for clients with refugee or similar statuses who arrived in the U.S. within the past five years.
Program Structure
This is a full-time position combining two part-time functions:
- Employment Specialist (approx. 25 hours/week) supporting Comprehensive Refugee Employment Services
- ESOL Student Liaison (approx. 15 hours/week) supporting NAAM’s ESOL program
Responsibilities are divided accordingly, with clear expectations and supervision within each program area.
Primary Responsibilities
Employment Services
- Assess clients’ language skills, job readiness, work history, and career goals
- Develop and maintain Individual Employment Plans
- Provide job search support (resumes, applications, interview preparation, workplace orientation)
- Conduct employer outreach and support job placement and retention
- Maintain accurate case notes, participant files, and program data in compliance with NAAM and ORI requirements
- Complete required reporting and support monitoring or site visits as needed
ESOL Student Liaison
- Support communication with students regarding engagement and program expectations
- Assist with ESOL waitlist management, onboarding, and scheduling
- Support required student assessments in coordination with ESOL staff
- Assist students with basic technology access and use
- Coordinate with instructors regarding student progress and employment readiness
Outreach & Reporting
- Represent NAAM at occasional events, employer meetings, and partner convenings
- Track services and outcomes and submit required internal reports
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or culturally diverse communities
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
- Comfort with phone-based communication and community outreach
- Proficiency with common technology tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace)
- Reliable transportation for local travel
- Lived experience as an immigrant or refugee strongly encouraged
- Preferred: Fluency in languages commonly spoken by NAAM clients
Compensation & Schedule
$25–$28 per hour, 40 hours per week , based on experience and qualifications.
Workload and priorities are reviewed regularly to ensure balance across program areas.
