CMM/Metrology Inspection Specialist (GD&T)

Every micron matters. As a CMM/Metrology Inspection Specialist, you’ll be the last line of defense—and the first source of insight—ensuring custom machined parts meet exact print requirements. You’ll deploy advanced inspection methods to develop and run quality programs, verify process accuracy through random sampling, and act swiftly when conditions require immediate repair.

Imagine This

You notice a trend in the non-conformance database: a recurring out-of-tolerance profile on a critical feature. You coordinate with manufacturing, validate equipment accuracy, run targeted CMM routines, and lead Root Cause Analysis. A worn fixture and a lapsed calibration emerge as culprits. You document the findings, notify the Production and Engineering Managers, update calibration records, and recommend a new gauge—turning a quality risk into a reliable process.

Your Impact

• Perform in-process and final inspections of custom machined components to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards.
• Use advanced inspection approaches to design and conduct quality programs that elevate performance.
• Execute random sampling and validate the accuracy of equipment and processes.
• Report issues that demand immediate repair to protect throughput and quality.
• Create comprehensive inspection reports across product lines, including customer-specific documentation.
• Inspect incoming/vendor-supplied parts and coordinate with manufacturing to move conforming parts to subsequent operations.
• Maintain and analyze a non-conformance database to spot and act on trends.
• Own metrology calibration: schedule, perform, and record calibrations for all tools and devices.
• Work with manufacturers to evaluate damaged metrology tools for cost-effective repair; replace when necessary.
• Notify Production Manager and Engineering Manager upon discovery of defective product.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to execute Root Cause Analysis and implement solutions.
• Recommend new inspection equipment to enhance capability and throughput.

• Profilometer, Micro-Hite
• Measurement gauges; thread/pitch/radius gages
• Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators
• Computer with Office 365 Excel
• Forklift and bridge crane

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or GED (required)
• 3 years of experience inspecting machined parts (required)
• Proficiency with standard measuring tools and techniques
• Working knowledge of GD&T
• Strong computer literacy, including Excel
• Ability to operate a forklift and bridge crane
