POSITION SUMMARY
The Plant Electrician position is responsible for supporting plant maintenance activities through safe execution of basic electrical tasks under supervision. This position focuses on developing fundamental skills in electrical safety, preventive maintenance, and equipment care while building awareness of the plant’s Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Arc Flash programs as outlined in OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
Electrician to work 4 - 10 hour days, in Manufacturing plant.
Designs, estimates, fabricates and installs electric or electronic control circuits on maintenance jobs.
Must understand relay logic and 3-phase electricity.
Disassembles, repairs, replaces or adjusts and reassembles all types of motor controllers, valves, pumps, etc.
Installs and maintains recorders and controllers.
Troubleshoots problems with plant equipment and corrects or makes corrective recommendations
Teaches, advocates and uses safe working practices and reports hazardous conditions to supervisor.
Maintains good housekeeping. This includes work area in shop as well as job site following any work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist in performing preventive maintenance (PM) and basic electrical repairs on motors, panels, and industrial controls.
- Replace fuses, bulbs, and wiring components.
- Support the installation of raceways, conduits, and fixtures according to supervision and drawings.
- Complete assigned work orders in the CMMS system with accurate time and task details.
- Follow all LOTO procedures and strictly adhere to the plant’s Arc Flash safety program and PPE requirements (NFPA 70E).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and participate in 5S and housekeeping efforts.
- Support maintenance planning efforts by reporting equipment issues and assisting in job preparation.
- Learn proper use of test meters and tools while observing safe work distances and lockout zones.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks as scheduled. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Basic understanding of electrical tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial safety and PPE use including arc-rated clothing.
- Ability to read and follow simple electrical schematics and instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical maintenance principles.
- Reliable attendance, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Awareness of Arc Flash hazards and energized work limits under supervision. QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in electrical fundamentals preferred.
- Completion of site LOTO and Arc Flash orientation training prior to unsupervised work.
- Must pass plant safety and skills assessment before advancement. ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA
- Completion of training modules and on-the-job evaluations.
- Demonstrated adherence to LOTO and Arc Flash requirements and safe work habits.
- Consistent and accurate CMMS entry of PM tasks.
- Eligibility to advance to after required time in classification and competency validation by supervisor and HR. NOTES
- This classification is covered by the USW Local #2936 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Advancement is based on demonstrated skills and completion of training modules.
- Employees must maintain compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E Arc Flash standards and PPE requirements at all times.
