Status: FLSA Non-Exempt, Union, 40 hours per week 7:00am – 3:30pm

Salary: FY26 Grade PW6 $29.0306 - $30.7759 per hour for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)

General Summary : The purpose of this position is to perform skilled equipment operation and manual labor in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Town’s sewer system; all other related work as required.

Essential Job Functions : *

• Participates in the construction and maintenance to the sewer system; excavates trenches and backfills excavations; repairs sewer lines.
• Regularly works in confined spaces. Responds to emergencies; frequently required to work extended hours in response to emergencies and problem situations.
• Work is performed in all weather conditions with exposure to hazards associated with chemicals, trenches, construction sites, extreme weather conditions and equipment operation; work environment can be very noisy. Frequent exposure to wastewater, septage, bio-solids.
• Responds to emergencies; determines appropriate corrective action; makes repairs. Responds to questions and complaints and makes related repairs.
• Performs general customer service activities.
• Replaces broken or worn parts in systems involved. Digs, braces and backfills areas as required.
• Maintains tools, equipment, and facilities related to sewer system operation.
• Maintains availability for emergency or stress situations.
• Coordinates with other departments or private contractors.
• Would be required to work snow removal.
• Assists other DPW divisions as necessary.
• Performs similar or related work as required.

Minimum Requirements : *

• High school graduation; three years of public works construction and maintenance experience including heavy equipment operation experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid CDL, Hydraulic License desired. Tanker Endorsement CDL Preferred.
• Thorough working knowledge of public works equipment operation.
• Working knowledge of sewer systems, sewer stations, equipment and materials. Knowledge of field safety. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of sewer stations.
• Participation in the Town’s mandated drug and alcohol random testing program.
• Work requires frequent and substantial physical effort. Spends the majority of the day standing, walking or operating equipment. Performs heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to access all levels of a construction site/building/structure, traverse uneven terrain, climb in/out of a hole, climb a ladder, and enter and exit from vehicles.
