Senior Research Contracts Associate
Overview
This position's work location is remote, with occasional time onsite as needed. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).
The Senior Research Contracts Associate will draft, review, execute a high-volume of research agreements, and manage a limited number of consortiums. Works independently on all but the most complex transactions. Agreements/Transactions
- Utilizes all institutional templates, as well develops draft agreements when a suitable template is not available. Works on exclusive options, exclusive licenses, and financial term sheets with input from management
- Independently negotiates confidentiality agreement, material transfer agreements, data use agreements, multi-site and academic and corporate collaboration agreements, sponsored research agreements, non-exclusive research reagent licenses and amendments to the foregoing
- Negotiates options, exclusive licenses and financial term sheets with input from manager and/or senior members on the Licensing and Contracts Teams
- Integrates knowledge of IP law into negotiation of all contracts
PI Relationship Management/Communication
- Responds to inquiries from PIs and other parties
- Drafts complex written messages
- Coordinates and attends meetings with PIs and other parties, with lead role in discussions and manager support only on complex issues
- Manages consortiums and multi-party collaborations led by DFCI
- Articulates institutional policies and practices to PIs and external parties
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Comprehension of science and translation of medical innovation. Knowledge of DFCI technology
- Remains current on knowledge of federal, state and institutional policy relevant to duties and responsibilities
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Communicates proactively
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated independence with the ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
- Ability to work as a member of a team including taking work on from colleagues within more complex knowledge base
- Ability to manage and prioritize numerous transactions and bring to closure in a timely manner
- Contributes to development of preferred language and educational materials referenced by the office for agreement negotiation
- Ability to represent DFCI and gain the confidence, trust and respect of clinicians, scientists, administrators, investors, external industry counterparts, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and administrators
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and complex organization with multiple stakeholders
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- The position requires a bachelor’s degree, with a JD strongly preferred.
- 2 years of research contracts experience in an academic institution
- Deal sheet is required to evaluate and assess transaction experience.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
