Coach / personal trainer

Ativo Fitness
Middleton, MA

Location: Middleton, MA
Employment Type: Part-Time (6–8 sessions per week + potential 1:1 clients) with potential for full-time advancement
Reports To: Owner
Ideal Start Date: December 2025 (January at the latest)

About Us

Ativo Fitness is a small-group personal training studio in Middleton, MA helping adults ages 35+ build strength and consistency.

We specialize in small group personal training — sessions capped at seven members — delivering personalized coaching, accountability, and results without the chaos of large-group fitness. Our approach is simple: expert coaching, clear structure, and a supportive community that helps members stay consistent for the long haul.

We’re not a franchise or a bootcamp — we’re a local, professional coaching team helping busy adults train smarter, not harder.

About This Opportunity

This isn’t your average coaching job — it’s a challenging, hands-on role where you’ll be trusted with real responsibility to shape the member experience.

As a coach at Ativo Fitness, you’ll lead small group personal training sessions, build relationships that drive accountability, and play an active role in keeping our environment organized, engaging, and world-class. You’ll support the Owner & Facility Lead with operational details, uphold the gym’s standards, and contribute to a member experience that feels personal and intentional every single day.

While your core role will be small group personal training (6–8 sessions per week guaranteed), you’ll also need to maintain availability for potential 1:1 personal training clients as we expand that offering. One-on-one sessions are not guaranteed but may grow as demand increases.

You’ll receive structured onboarding, mentorship, and continuing education to help you grow into a professional coach capable of owning the room — not just running a workout.

For the right person, this position can grow into a Facility Lead role — and eventually into a General Manager position.

We’re intentional about creating a clear path for advancement inside Ativo. As the gym continues to grow, so will the opportunities for leaders who demonstrate consistency, initiative, and the ability to elevate others.

Our Mission and Values

Ativo Fitness helps busy adults build strength efficiently, stay consistent, and feel in control of their health. We make fitness simple, effective, and sustainable — so our members can live stronger, more confident lives outside the gym.

What We Value

  • Good Humans Only: Character over ego. Kindness and accountability come first.
  • Consistency Over Intensity: Progress beats perfection — every time.
  • Clarity Over Chaos: We coach with purpose and communicate clearly.
  • Strength First, Always: Real training that builds real capability.
  • Respect for Time: Every session starts and ends on time, with purpose.
  • Community with Standards: Welcoming, supportive, and built on effort and follow-through.

Our Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a coach who’s eager to grow, contribute, and take ownership of their craft. The ideal candidate isn’t looking for “hours” — they’re looking for a place where their coaching actually matters.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Care deeply about helping people get stronger, move better, and stay consistent.
  • Can lead with confidence, empathy, and attention to detail.
  • Want to be part of a team that values structure, growth, and accountability.
  • Are excited to be challenged, take initiative, and go beyond what’s “in your job description.”

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Personal Trainer through NASM, NSCA, CFSC, or ACE.
  • 1+ year of experience coaching small groups or individuals (preferred, not required)
  • Early-career coaches with strong character and cultural fit will be considered

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coach small group personal training sessions (max 7 members per session)
  • Deliver clear instruction, purposeful feedback, and individualized scaling
  • Maintain high energy, professionalism, and member engagement throughout each session.
  • Support the Facility Lead in maintaining organization, flow, and member experience improvements
  • Help keep the facility clean, organized, and “member-ready” at all times
  • Maintain availability for potential 1:1 personal training clients as the program expands (not guaranteed but optional growth opportunity)
  • Participate in Ativo community events & marketing activities.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with the owner and team members.
  • Attend scheduled team meetings and 1:1s.

Schedule: 6–8 sessions per week with availability for early mornings, evenings, and rotating Saturdays.

Skills Required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are non-negotiable — you must be able to light up the room and the people in it.
  • Strong understanding of movement and strength training principles; ability to correct and modify on the spot
  • Detail-oriented and professional under pressure
  • Reliable, punctual, and consistently prepared
  • Comfortable in a high-standard team environment focused on excellence
  • Must want to be challenged and ready to take on responsibilities beyond standard coaching

Values Alignment

Ativo coaches model the same principles we expect from our members — consistency, professionalism, and pride in doing things the right way. Every action, from class setup to client follow-up, should reflect our values of clarity, strength, and respect for time.

Next Steps

To apply, email your resume and a short note explaining why Ativo caught your eye and why you want to join the team to [email protected].

Applications submitted only through Indeed without a personal email introduction will not be reviewed.

We’re looking for coaches who want to be part of something special — not just a place to train, but a team and a mission to stand behind.
