Accounts Payable / Staff Accountant - Boston, MA

Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. We are committed to ensuring that every one of these individuals has access to comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens.
Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. This position requires you to work in-person 3-4 days a week.

Patient Facing: No Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is looking for an Accounts Payable / Staff Accountant to join our finance team to assist with accounts payable tasks as well as general accounting and grant billing functions of our organization. Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable:
- Match packing slips/purchase orders (if any) with original invoices and obtain authorization to pay from ordering department.
- Process check runs and/or direct deposit payments according to terms of payment and company cash flow.
- File PAID invoices in a timely manner; post invoices to the appropriate month and general ledger account.
- Post monthly manual checks into the fund accounting system.
- Post and reconcile all credit card transactions monthly; perform monthly reconciliations to ensure the receipt of monthly invoices.
- Complete new vendor applications; resolve payment issues with vendors and staff.
- Post monthly bank draft transactions.
- Prepare year-end Form 1099 and Form 1096.
- Prepare allocation entries for vendors.
- Complete assigned monthly grant and contract billing; assist the accounting team in the preparation of backup documentation for other grants and contracts.
- Produce periodic grant reports to program managers to ensure the appropriate spending of grant budgets.
- Assist the Accounting Manager with the Fiscal Year budget.
- Process the remote deposit of cash receipts.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly closing, year-end closing and various cost report requirements.
- Collect monthly cash receipts from the Food Program and Pharmacy.
- Prepare and post monthly general journal entries.
- Post monthly cash disbursements per bank account activities.
- Assist with maintaining MBTA Charlie tickets and cab vouchers.
- College or associate degree with accounting major preferred or the equivalent of 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft software and business intelligence applications.
- Familiarity with payroll and accounting system.
- Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks and priorities and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective English communication skills both verbal and written.
- Detail oriented with ability to take direction.
- The compensation starts at $52,400 annually and increases based on years of experience.
