Director, Cell Therapies Technology Strategy & Solutions
Overview
The Director for Technology Strategy and Solutions for Cell Therapies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will be instrumental in guiding the transition of the Cell Therapies system portfolio as we transition from our current clinical and digital partnership to a new collaborative partner and plan for our future cancer hospital. This role requires a deep understanding of the cell therapies domain, including the unique IT and digital needs associated with research, development, and clinical application of cell-based treatments. The role will partner with the business and technology stakeholders and lead the strategic planning and execution of the separation and re-architecture of IT systems. Ensuring the comprehensive digital solutions are positioned to support complex workflows and data management requirements across cell therapies dynamic stages of change is critical. This position demands a strong visionary leader with expertise in IT systems architecture and application delivery to navigate and align technology strategies with the Institute's plan and goals through this transformative transition.

Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Vision Development
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of the cell therapies system portfolio during the IT transition to a new collaborative partner.
- Work closely with the VP of Cellular Therapies and other Institute leaders to develop a clear product and technology strategy, aligning with Institute goals, market trends, and client needs.
- Ensure the strategy supports key IT, cell therapy, and broader Institute performance indicators (KPIs), while identifying operational risks and providing mitigation strategies.
Technology and Application Planning
- Develop and implement a comprehensive application plan that supports the cell therapies portfolio and aligns with clinical and operational goals.
- Build and execute a detailed work plan, evaluating critical paths, dependencies, and resource alignment.
- Oversee the evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of technology solutions to enhance clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and research capabilities.
IT Architecture and System Integration
- Oversee the design and implementation of new IT architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless transition and integration of digital systems, minimizing disruption to clinical operations.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Relationship Management
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical partners, vendors, and internal teams, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Provide domain expertise in evaluating strategic clinical services collaborations and partnerships involving technology oversight or delivery.
Leadership and Team Development
- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to IT teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Develop the team resource strategy, assessing the value of utilizing outsourced staff or managed service partnerships for specific talent needs.
Risk Management and Continuous Evaluation
- Continuously evaluate issues and risks, providing mitigation plans to reduce their impact on the Institute.
- Identify technology needs and opportunities for innovation in collaboration with senior leadership, clinicians, researchers, and IT teams.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- No direct reports initially. Expect the need to build out a team/program structure and to manage a small to medium sized team.
- Oversee and direct both internal and external cross-functional project resources including temporary/contract staff and vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10 years of IT strategy/management experience required, including 5 years in senior leadership preferred.
- Expertise in large-scale IT transitions and system integrations (healthcare/life sciences preferred).
- Experience with manufacturing/product development systems (e.g., laboratory, pharma) preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory/cell product technology, EHR systems, data management, and cybersecurity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Expertise in IT systems architecture, application development, and digital strategy within healthcare, with strong knowledge of cell therapies, including operational, clinical, and regulatory aspects.
- Knowledge of GxP system requirements and validations.
- Proven leadership and project management skills to drive strategic initiatives, manage complex transitions, and execute effectively.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to engage and influence stakeholders, foster collaboration, and build consensus across diverse teams.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities focused on delivering innovative clinical and operational solutions.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards (e.g., FDA, HIPAA) and the technology development lifecycle (requirements, design, testing, go-live).
- Curiosity, professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to lead through challenges with self-awareness, humility, and a strong work ethic.
- Strong planning, strategy, project management, and organizational skills in complex environments.
- Excellent organizational, facilitation, presentation, and conflict management skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities and resources in a dynamic environment.
- Adherence to IS change management policies, with effective planning, communication, and stakeholder alignment.
