Apprentice Nurse Program

Baystate Healthwestern Massachusetts's premier healthcare provider and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellenceis hiring for the Apprentice Nurse Program (ANP)!

This position provides an opportunity for students who would like to gain experience in a fast-paced, acute care nursing environment. This position is offered to nursing students actively enrolled in a RN nursing program accredited through the ACEN or CCNE.

Position highlights include:

• The apprentice nurse will function in a supportive role to a registered nurse and work collaboratively with the health care team in the management of patient care.
• The apprentice nurse will perform direct patient care (hygiene, skin care, mobility and assistance with elimination needs), obtain and record vital signs, collect laboratory specimens, document intake/output, communicate effectively with patients/staff, promote patient safety and function as a team member within the health system.
• Professional development, support and encouragement to enhance confidence and skills.
• Exposure to a range of diagnoses.

Schedule:

• Must work a minimum of 200 hours annually, excluding orientation time. Preferably, an ANP I will work 36 hours in a 12-week period if feasible while actively enrolled and participating in classes. This can be (4, 8, or 12-hour shifts) during the school year.
• During the summer 24 hours per week fulfilled in an 8- or 12-hour shift along with a weekend requirement of 24 hours every four weeks.
• This position rotates among 16 medical, surgical, and cardiac adult inpatient floors at Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield MA.

Qualifications:

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• Currently actively enrolled and participating in an accredited Registered Nurse nursing program.
• Current American Heart Association BLS for the Health Care provider CPR Certification required.
• Successfully completed 1 clinical rotation (including Fundamentals) or has 6 months of applicable direct patient care experience.
• Current resume required with online application.
