Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Platform)

The Platform team is responsible for the underlying infrastructure that runs all things WHOOP. Our work is at the center of privacy, security, cloud excellence, developer experience and product. This role will be focused on Data Governance at WHOOP and upholding our Privacy Principles at a technical level.

This position is part of the Cybersecurity team within Platform and reports to the Group Lead of Platform.

• Data Rights Automation: development internal tools/services, procedures and automations to fulfill Data Rights compliances such as GDPR and CCPA.
• Privacy and Security reviews: perform manual design and implementation reviews of products and services at WHOOP.
• Developer Guidance: Enable our developers across the company to proactively address Data Rights concerns and engineering challenges.
• Work in a cross functional team that works closely with multiple teams including, Software, Product, InfoSec, GRC, IT and Legal
• Manage and improve Transcend system that governs our compliance with data privacy regulations

• 5 years of proven and extensive Software Engineering experience developing and maintaining scalable, cloud-native software solutions
• 1 year of experience in data privacy and/or information security - we are open to a diverse set of backgrounds
• Proven and extensive experience in building RESTful APIs and background workers in Java, C#, go or rust
• Hands-on experience working in a GDPR compliant environment or similarly regulated environment
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (Postgres or similar)

• Hands-on experience in a Bug Bounty program (either triaging bugs or submitting bugs)
• Hands-on experience with Policy As Code such as Open Policy Agent, AWS Cedar or Hashicorp Sentinel
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure As Code such as AWS CDK and Terraform

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
