Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
● Answers all incoming telephone calls and routes them to the appropriate person. Takes
clear messages for providers and other office staff. Handles routine requests for
information. Ensures that all urgent messages are handled with priority per practice
protocol.
● Schedules patient appointments. Maintains providers' schedules for accuracy.
● Monitors patient flow and waiting room activity, keeps appropriate clinical personnel
informed of patient flow issues
● Responsible for check-in function, which includes greeting and directing patients,
answering all questions courteously and helpfully within the scope of responsibility,
obtaining signatures for all forms, including assignment of benefits, notice of privacy,
insurance waivers, and authorization forms.
● Responsible for check-out functions such as the completion and collection of in/out
patient encounter forms, the collection of co-payments, and scheduling follow-up
appointments, tests, and procedures.
● Enters documentation and scans correspondence into Athena.
● Processes prescription refills. Receives and distributes all mail per practice protocol.
● Performs all other duties and tasks requested to ensure the efficient overall
performance of the practice.
Education/Experience Requirements:
● Previous experience in a community-based medical practice required.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
● Ability to read and interpret documents, including patient charts and insurance forms.
● Strong computer skills.
● Previous Athena and/or EPIC experience preferred.
● Excellent customer service skills.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Good problem-solving skills.
● Ability to prioritize work and respond to changing needs.
