Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Orientation and Mobility Specialists are needed for contract opportunities during the 2025-2026 school year, with potential for renewal. These full-time, on-site positions are based in Cambridge, MA, supporting various age groups depending on district requirements.
Responsibilities include assessing and teaching students who are visually impaired or blind to navigate their environments safely and independently. Specialists will develop individualized orientation and mobility plans, collaborate with educators and families, and provide instruction both inside and outside the classroom setting to foster functional mobility skills.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
- Experience working with students who are visually impaired or blind in educational settings
- Strong assessment and individualized program development skills
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Flexibility to work with diverse student age groups based on district needs
Location:
- Positions are located on-site in Cambridge, MA
- Local candidates encouraged to apply
- Candidates residing 50 miles or more away may qualify for travel contracts, which include weekly tax-free stipends for housing and meals
