Are you a skilled Veterinary Assistant with a passion for Internal Medicine ? Join our dynamic team at Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (VESH) in a role that offers exciting challenges and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families!

*This position is a 50/50 split between both the South Deerfield and West Springfield locations*

Compensation :
  • $16.50 - $18.50 based on skills assessment leveling
Anticipated Schedule:
  • Four 9-hour shifts, Monday – Thursday
  • Monday/Wednesday: South Deerfield, MA
  • Tuesday/Thursday: West Springfield, MA
About the Role:
As a Full-Time Internal Medicine Assistant, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, assisting with patient examinations, client communication, and more. You will have the unique opportunity to work at two locations, South Deerfield and West Springfield, expanding your experience across our internal medicine teams.

Major Responsibilities
  • Patient Examination Support: Assist with all aspects of patient exams including setting up equipment, obtaining patient histories, restraining animals, taking radiographs, providing take-home instructions, filling prescriptions, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • Client Communication: Interact with clients in person, over the phone, and via email to provide updates, gather information, and support the care process.
  • Exam Room Preparation: Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and ready for use. Record vital signs (TPR, weight, etc.) and enter accurate information into the medical record system.
  • Animal Care & Handling: Support daily patient care including cleaning cages, feeding, walking, and bathing. Monitor patients for cleanliness and comfort. Safely retrieve and return patients to and from their owners, ensuring IV catheters are removed and belongings are returned.
  • Hospital Admissions: Assist with admitting patients into the hospital for diagnostics or procedures, ensuring proper identification and recordkeeping.
  • Facility Maintenance : Help maintain a clean and organized hospital environment, including treatment areas, laundry, cages, and exam rooms.
  • Supply Management: Restock exam rooms and treatment areas regularly and assist with receiving and organizing deliveries.
  • Medical Recordkeeping: Accurately document patient information, communication, and treatments in medical records.

Like human medical specialists, VESH supports primary care veterinarians with the evaluation and treatment of pets affected by trauma, chronic issues, serious illness, or unusual disorders requiring advanced training along with providing critical & emergency pet care.
