Data Engineer - State Government Project
W2 Position - Contract -Remote - Vermont
Required Skills:
- Proven experience working as a Data Engineer
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex SELECT statements, joins, subqueries, and transformation logic
- Hands-on experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server database architecture
- Data modeling, normalization concepts, and reverse-engineering undocumented schemas
- Experience with ETL methodology and preparing structured data for ingestion into third-party systems
- Strong analytical and documentation skills with the ability to interpret incomplete or ambiguous legacy data
- Experience with ETL processing of binary large objects (BLOBs), PDFs, and other unstructured data
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with public safety RMS, case-management, or similarly complex relational data structures
- Experience handling complex, highly relational legacy databases with limited or missing documentation
- Prior experience supporting government or public sector IT projects
- Strong ability to collaborate with technical teams, vendors, and subject-matter experts
- Experience participating in test migrations and iterative data validation
- Ability to produce clear, well-structured technical documentation suitable for long-term maintenance
- Experience supporting data migration projects involving system replacements or modernization initiatives

- Advanced SQL (complex queries, joins, transformations)
- MySQL & Microsoft SQL Server (schema analysis, performance tuning)
- Data modeling & normalization (legacy and modern schemas)
- ETL pipelines (extraction, transformation, loading)

- Technical documentation & data mapping
