Position Summary:
The Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, or repairing wood structures comparable materials, such as concrete forms, building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, rafters, wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
· Take measurements and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
· Assemble, fasten, shape and cut materials to measurements, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, or power saws.
· Prepare all parts and sub-assemblies for work to be accomplished using assembly instructions, blueprints, and parts lists.
· Keep manufacturing free of debris and dirt by sweeping, collecting trash and collecting and sorting recycling.
· Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports.
· Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.
· Select and order lumber or other required materials.
· Work with or remove hazardous material.
· Prepare cost estimates for clients or employers.
· Assist the materials group with the kitting of project parts when needed.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
· High School Diploma
· Minimum 2 years general labor experience preferably within a manufacturing environment.
· Able to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints.
· Ability to use multiple different types of hand tools.
· Able to follow verbal and written work instruction.
· Ability to effectively understand and operate within safety guidelines and policies
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Standard office environment including work at a computer terminal. Work involves extended periods of sitting, occasional walking and lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
