Your impact

We’re seeking a Geotechnical Group Leader to be based in Boston, MA and various unanticipated worksites in the US.

Responsibilities:

Technical: Exploration methods (soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT probes, seismic geophysical testing), geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing for soil (classification, strength, consolidation, and cyclic) and rock. Inspection of deep foundations (drilled shafts and driven piles), tunnels, foundation subgrade, shallow foundations, subsurface explorations, and earth retaining structures. Design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, above and below ground tanks, pipelines, embankment and cut slopes, and ground improvement. Earthquake hazard evaluations, including liquefaction assessments, and site-specific ground response analyses. Preparation of technical reports, data reports, and baseline reports. Computer programs including SETTLE3, GRLWEAP, LPILE, SLIDE OR SLOPE/W, SHAFT, A-PILE, MATHCAD, FB-MULTIPIER, PLAXIS, and FLAC. Experience of critiquing and quality assuring technical documents. Managerial: Promote a culture of caring, quality, safety, and Inclusion and Diversity. Partner with the Director of Operations, Department Leaders, other leadership, and our Sales team to grow and maintain sustainable work pipelines. Use the workforce planning and other tools to track and manage staff utilization and partner with the PMs, and other project execution staff, to deliver on project needs and contractual terms. Experience managing a significant pool of resources and the ability to progress and manage schemes from inception to design completion. Act as hiring manager for required staff, working in concert with others around established hiring plans; including helping our business achieve Together Beyond goals and integrate new hires. Partner with Solutions counterparts to disperse knowledge and incorporate new technologies within assigned field. Manage performance and help talent grow and develop, using the e3 process. Coach, develop, and mentor staff to deliver superior results collectively and individually. Build team culture in concert with overall performance unit and company goals/strategy, and communicate with aligned staff (i.e., generally working in office 2 to 3 days a week, holding regular team meetings and 1:1 meetings, etc.) Review and approve time sheets, expense reports, and time off requests for aligned staff. Lead and promote in resource sharing opportunities, including use of Global Delivery Centres.

Supervise the work of up to 15 other employees including Entry, Mid and Senior Level Geotechnical and Geological Engineers.

Here's what you'll need

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and 15 years of work experience in the job offered or related Geotechnical Engineering occupation.

A Professional Engineer (PE) license (any state) or ability to receive it within 3 months of hire.

TRAVEL: Up to 10% domestic travel to construction sites to oversee critical elements/conduct as built verifications.

SPECIFIC SKILLS: Knowledge of design standards as applied to transportation and water projects. Technical mentoring and people management skills. Numerical modelling skills (finite element or finite difference software) Experience working on fast paced design-build projects. Experience interfacing directly with clients and building lasting relationships with them. Leadership and communication skills with the ability to utilize these skills as part of large multi-disciplinary teams. Industry recognized Ground Engineering professional with a wide network of contacts with Contractors, design houses, key clients and academic institutions working in the ground engineering field. Demonstrated aptitude, ability, and capacity to build a team.

220,210.00

Posted Salary Range: Upper

228,800.00

The base salary range for this position is $220,210.00 to $228,800.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
