Job Summary

The Yu Laboratory at the Endocrine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and talented Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to perform epidemiologic research in osteoporosis health disparities. Osteoporotic fractures are a common and important public health problem, and significant knowledge gaps are present due to limited demographic diversity in prior studies of bone health. Our research seeks to improve health equity by investigating osteoporosis tools and therapies across racially and ethnically diverse populations, including groups traditionally underrepresented in research. We will leverage large datasets to generate new fracture prediction tools and osteoporosis treatment recommendations that apply to patients of all backgrounds. These projects involve epidemiologic analyses of real-world data as well as individual-level patient data from clinical trials and involves collaboration with experts from across the country. The overall goal is to provide an evidence base for clinical osteoporosis recommendations that are validated and applicable to all populations.

This position is a 2-year position funded through a grant from the Doris Duke Foundation. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will join a highly collaborative and dynamic environment to advance research projects related to health equity in osteoporosis care. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will be expected to: (1) make strong intellectual contributions to scientific strategies; (2) play a leadership role by acting as subject matter expert in epidemiology and/or population health methods; and (3) contribute to scientific literature, reports, journals, grants, and presentations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

A PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, population health sciences, or related field. Strong background in epidemiology and/or population health science as demonstrated by a first author publication in a relevant scientific journal. Experience with large database study design and statistical analysis. Active interest in osteoporosis, health disparities, and/or social determinants of health. Interest in conceiving and designing new projects in line with the Unit’s research focus. Excellent time management/organizational skills. Outstanding personal initiative, communication, and writing skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team with experts across multiple disciplines.

To apply, please submit your CV and a letter of interest to Dr. Elaine Yu at [email protected].

In your cover letter, please describe your overall career interests and goals, why this project would suit you, and what you would aim to learn.
