Art Teacher Toddler to Grade 5
About Us
At The Laurel, we believe children are capable, curious, and full of creative potential. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our learning environment is rooted in exploration, collaboration, and the expressive languages of art. We view the classroom as a living, evolving space where students, educators, and materials interact to co-construct knowledge.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and reflective Art Teacher who embraces a Reggio-inspired philosophy. This educator will design and facilitate meaningful artistic experiences that honor children’s ideas, foster inquiry, and encourage multiple forms of expression. The ideal candidate sees art not as a standalone subject, but as an integral language for thinking, communication, and discovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement emergent, child-centered art experiences based on students’ interests and inquiries
- Create a studio environment (atelier) that invites exploration with diverse materials and media
- Document student learning processes through photos, transcripts, and visual displays
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to integrate art into broader project work
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression in each child
- Engage families and the school community through exhibitions and shared documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Early Childhood Education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience working with children in a Reggio-inspired or progressive educational setting
- Strong understanding of child development and inquiry-based learning
- Skilled in a variety of artistic media (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media)
- Excellent observation, documentation, and communication skills
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn alongside students and colleagues
Preferred Qualities
- Familiarity with the concept of the “Hundred Languages of Children”
- Experience creating pedagogical documentation
- Comfort with open-ended, process-oriented teaching approaches
- Reflective practitioner who values ongoing professional growth
What We Offer
- A collaborative and supportive teaching community
- Opportunities for professional development in Reggio-inspired practices
- A creative environment
- Competitive salary and benefits package
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a portfolio (if available) showcasing your artistic work and/or student documentation to [email protected] along with three professional refrences.
At The Laurel School, we are committed to cultivating a space where creativity, curiosity, and relationships thrive. We look forward to welcoming an educator who shares this vision.
