Skilled Grounds Laborer Substitute The Longmeadow Public Works

Department has an immediate need for a Skilled Grounds Laborer Substitute to assist in the daily maintenance of the athletic fields and grounds. Position is responsible for the daily maintenance of the parks and recreation facilities and grounds. Work includes removal of garbage, removing snow, mowing lawns, cutting shrubs, lining playing fields, and ensuring for the overall upkeep of playing fields. Successful candidate must have: Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Knowledge of different fertilizers; utilization and hazards. Knowledge of turf maintenance. Basic knowledge of irrigation systems. Knowledge of necessary materials, methods, practices, used in maintaining playing fields and recreational grounds. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to follow instructions, perform the physical requirements of the position, operate lawn mowers, snow blowers, and related equipment. Strong communication skills, problem-solving skills and customer service skills. Safe and effective operation of tools and equipment. High School diploma or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. Minimum age is 18 years; must have and maintain a valid driver\'s license as a condition of employment. Must be able to pass a CORI check. Salary \$18.67 per hour; no benefits.
