Court Interpreter - Mobile/Travel to New Hampshire

Prisma is seeking experienced Court Interpreters to join our independent contractor team. In this role you will provide onsite interpreting (OSI) services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB). This position requires traveling to multiple NHJB court houses in New Hampshire. Court locations include but are not limited to:
- Salem, NH - 10th Circuit Court
- Concord, NH - 6th Circuit & Probate Courts
- Manchester, NH - Hillsborough Superior Court
IN-DEMAND LANGUAGES:
SPANISH plus ARABIC, CHINESE (Mandarin), FRENCH, HAITIAN CREOLE, NEPALI, PORTUGUESE, SWAHILI, and VIETNAMESE. If your language is not in this list, you are welcome to apply if you meet all minimum requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Language Proficiency - Proficiency in both English and the target language through an approved assessment. Examples listed below.
- Testing recognized by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC)
- Tests recognized by a state judiciary language access program
- Superior/Advanced-High score assessed by LTI/ACTFL, e.g. OPI/OPIc assessments for rare or indigenous dialects
- Speaking and listening assessment (12+ score) by ALTA
- Training - Completed training that aligns with the NCSC's model curriculum in three core areas:
- Interpretation techniques
- Legal and court terminology
- Interpreter ethics
- Examination - Successful completion of the NCSC Written Exam (if exam is available for the non-English language)
- Agree to undergo annual criminal history and/or state registry background checks
- Strong understanding of NHJB procedures, e.g. precise documentation of services provided for each session
- At least one (1) year of onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience in a court setting
- Two (2) professional references who can confirm your profession as an onsite consecutive or simultaneous court interpreter
- Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older
- Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma
Candidates with any of the following credentials will be fast-tracked to interviewing/onboarding:
- Federal Court Interpreter Certified (FCICE)
- State Certified - Passed NCSC Oral Exam
- Professionally Qualified - Passed United Nations or US State Department conference tests
- State Registered - Passed NCSC Written Exam & Oral Proficiency Interview
Candidates shall also be able to provide:
- Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.
- Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
- Correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and your native language.
- Experience with following the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
- Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP
- Compliance with applicable ethics and standards
