Communications and Engagement Manager
Job Description
Summary of the Role:
Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking a talented and experienced Communications and Engagement Manager to craft and deliver compelling content that informs and engages our diverse student body and their families. This role is essential in ensuring students receive timely, clear, and actionable information throughout their academic journey while providing families with relevant updates across multiple channels.
The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and editor, as well as a highly collaborative operational expert capable of managing complex technical workflows across digital platforms and fostering relationships across university departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy & Development: Author, edit, and manage high-quality content for all student-facing communication channels, including email, internal news portals, digital signage, social media, and specialized student communication websites.
Parent Communications & Portal Management: Develop and deploy targeted communications for parents and families. Serve as the primary content owner and editor for the Parent/Family Communications Portal and manage the strategic schedule of parent-specific news and announcements.
Technical Platform Management: Collaborate with enterprise and network-system administration teams to optimize core university technical tools. Operate and author content directly within Technolutions Slate to segment communications for students and parents, ensuring accurate deployment. Leverage internal data platforms to implement, manage, and monitor student checklist compliance and engagement.
Performance Monitoring: Track and report on key email, SMS, and web metrics to assess communication effectiveness and identify specific opportunities for optimization and increased engagement.
Contingent Content Support: Provide writing and editing support for general university content, including news articles for the main website or internal email communications directed at other internal populations, as needed.
Project Management: Manage a comprehensive communications calendar for recurring student milestones (e.g. registration, finals, orientation) and coordinate content review/approval cycles with university-wide administrative departments. Oversee user management and training while establishing and maintaining roles and permissions across campus systems.
Tone & Voice Consistency: Ensure all student and family communications adhere to university brand guidelines, utilizing a clear, empathetic, and student-centric voice that promotes understanding and prompts action.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between Marketing and Communications and all student service departments. Partner with subject matter experts across the university to gather information, verify facts, and maintain a unified voice across all student and family touchpoints.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related technical field.
Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in writing, editing, and content management.
Stakeholder Engagement: Proven experience managing or contributing to communications targeted at parents, families, or similar stakeholder groups.

Data & Analytics: Experience pulling and interpreting standard reports from email platforms and web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics).
Design Basics: Proficiency with tools like Canva or Adobe Express for visual content creation.
Writing Skills: Exceptional writing and proofreading skills with a proven ability to translate complex administrative or technical information into clear, student-centric messaging.
