Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Overview
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is recruiting a MD, DO, MD/PhD or DO//PhD board-certified clinical radiation oncologist with academic rank at the Associate Professor or Professor at Harvard Medical School. Appointment will be equal to the candidate’s experience and record of accomplishment. Candidates must have completed their residency in an ACGME-accredited radiation oncology program and/or fellowship in an accredited US training program.
Candidates must have exceptional clinical and interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. The ideal candidate will also contribute to our Institute's research and teaching missions and partner with clinical and administrative leaders of the department to drive forward planning related to the future of the Department of Radiation Oncology, DFCI’s Future Cancer Hospital and our new collaboration with Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center. The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Vice Chair of Education, who will play a pivotal role in developing and advancing educational excellence and mentorship within the department. This leader will develop and oversee educational programs, ensuring the professional development of trainees. Responsibilities include developing curriculum in radiation oncology, mentoring residents, and fostering a supportive environment for scholarly productivity. The Vice Chair represents the department across the institute as well as nationally and internationally through educational outreach and career counseling. This role demands a commitment to educational leadership recognized by peers and the broader academic community. The faculty member will dedicate approximately 25% of their effort to clinical care with a commitment to clinical excellence, mentorship, and education and 75% to efforts related to administration and research. Key responsibilities include:
- In collaboration with DFCI's Senior Vice President for Education, oversee the development, administration and continuous improvement of physician and physics residency and fellowship training programs as well as medical student rotations for the Department of Radiation oncology.
- Ensure accreditation standards are followed in the program's development and are continuously met throughout the administration of the residency and fellowship training programs.
- Provide mentorship and career development support to trainees.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative educational curriculum in radiation oncology.
- Coordinate trainee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
- Facilitate regular trainee evaluations, feedback, and remediation plans when necessary.
- Promote a culture of scholarly activity, supporting research and academic productivity among trainees.
- Represent the department at national and international educational forums and conferences.
- Collaborate with faculty to enhance teaching skills and educational methodologies.
- Oversee educational program resources, including budgeting, scheduling, and faculty assignments.
This leadership role directly supports the Department of Radiation Oncology and DFCI’s mission of academic excellence and fosters a culture of education, mentorship, and equity.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
