Display and Sponsored Shops (DSS) is Wayfair’s innovative advertising platform, enabling suppliers to maximize product visibility and drive sales across Wayfair US, Wayfair CA, and Wayfair Professional . Leveraging both internal and external technologies, DSS provides advanced ad placements that enhance the shopping experience while delivering measurable impact for brands.

We have reached a pivotal scaling phase for Wayfair’s Sponsored Shops . While currently a high-impact performance tool, its presence is primarily concentrated at the top of single-class browse pages. We are now ready to move beyond this baseline to aggressively expand and experiment with new placements and diverse creative media.

What You’ll Do
As a Software Engineer , you will be at the forefront of designing and developing enterprise-scale advertising technology that powers premium brand experiences across Wayfair’s platform. You will:

• Solve complex engineering challenges related to ad serving, commercial break structures, and performance optimization at scale.

• Collaborate across teams to integrate new advertising formats, working closely with platform engineering, data science, and product management teams.

• Drive innovation by introducing best practices, fostering a strong engineering culture, and leading experimentation efforts for new ad products.

• Ensure high performance and reliability in ad delivery through efficient system design, data-driven optimizations, and industry-leading standards.

What We’re Looking For
We seek a passionate, innovative engineer who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and is eager to shape a high-impact product. The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with large-scale ad tech systems (real-time bidding, programmatic advertising, ad serving, etc.).

• Strong backend development skills , with expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and performance optimization.

• A problem-solving mindset , with the ability to break down complex problems into scalable solution and to convert the product requirements into a technical solution.

We Are a Match Because You Have:

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering using object oriented language and preferably Java

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases

• Experience working with event-driven architectures, DDD, and TDD

• Mastery of some flavor of modern frontend frameworks and technologies like React, Redux, etc

• Experience in Big Data technologies like Apache Kafka/Apache spark/Nosql databases

• Preferred experience in the CI/CD tools/platforms like Buildkite/Docker/Kubernetes.

• Experience with Cloud Native architecture platforms like Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.

• Experience in system monitoring using tools like DataDog etc.
