The Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track nursing faculty member to teach and serve as director for our post-baccalaureate and post-master’s Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) programs. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.

The Director provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership while maintaining active engagement in teaching and scholarship. The Director collaborates with faculty, administration, and clinical partners to advance practice-focused doctoral education in alignment with the department’s mission ensuring excellence in curriculum, student outcomes, faculty development and accreditation compliance.

The primary responsibilities of the DNP program director are to ensure the successful academic and clinical administration of the program consistent with departmental, college, and university mission, philosophy, and policies; Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) standards; and Massachusetts State Board of Nursing (MABORN) regulations. This individual will work in collaboration with DNP program faculty to ensure the smooth running of the program.

Expectations

Leadership

  • Provides leadership for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the DNP curriculum.
  • Ensure alignment with AACN Essentials (2021) and national standards
  • Oversee program outcomes including certification pass rates, graduation rates, and student satisfaction.
  • Contributes to strategic planning for graduate nursing education.
  • Contribute to the advertisement and recruitment of prospective students for the DNP program
  • Lead curriculum revisions and innovation in advanced practice, systems leadership, and quality improvement.
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and inclusive practice.
  • Collaborate with leadership on enrollment management and program growth.
  • Ensure academic integrity and adherence to professional standards.
  • Provide mentorship to faculty and evaluation of faculty performance.
  • Participate in the marketing, recruitment and orientation of the students.
  • Monitors and advises the students related to progression and completion of study.
  • Serves as a role model of professional nursing leadership for students and faculty.

Teaching

  • Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, and values of the University of Massachusetts Boston and the Manning College of Nursing (MCNHS).
  • Teach four to five 3-credit courses per year.
  • Chair and/or serve on DNP scholarly project committees.
  • Mentor students in evidence-based practice projects, quality improvement initiatives, and systems-level change.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and course design.
  • Develops and implements methods to evaluate the achievement of end of program outcomes and course objectives.
  • Effectively uses and is knowledgeable of current e-learning technologies.

Scholarship

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship or scholarly practice consistent with faculty rank and university expectations.
  • Develops opportunities to integrate innovative teaching methodologies into education, research, and practice.

Service

  • Serve on department, college and university committees as assigned.
  • Provide leadership for DNP program committees and participate in graduate admissions, progression, and policy decisions.
  • Maintain active engagement in professional nursing organizations at the regional, national, or international level.

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) from an accredited institution.
  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.
  • National certification as a nurse practitioner preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in graduate nursing education, preferably in a DNP program.
  • Experience teaching in graduate nursing programs.
  • Evidence of scholarship and professional engagement.
  • Administrative experiences in an academic or clinical setting preferred

UMass Boston expects to pay within an approximate range between $95,000 and $107,000 for this position.

The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on the consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
