Job Summary

The Retail Safety Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of safety programs across all convenience store locations. This executive-level role ensures a safe and secure environment for employees and customers, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, and ensures compliance with all relevant regulations. The Director collaborates with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to embed safety into the company’s culture and operations.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Set the vision and direction for retail safety initiatives across all store locations.
  • Program Development: Oversee the design and implementation of safety policies and programs tailored to retail operations.
  • Risk Management: Lead enterprise-wide risk assessments and ensure proactive hazard mitigation.
  • Incident Oversight: Direct investigations of major incidents and ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Compliance: Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Training: Oversee the development and delivery of safety training programs for all levels of staff.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Lead the development and execution of emergency response plans.
  • Data & Reporting: Analyze safety performance metrics and present findings to executive leadership.
  • Culture Building: Champion a culture of safety through communication, recognition, and accountability.
  • Collaboration: Partner with store operations, HR, legal, and other departments to align safety with business goals.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in safety management, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven success managing safety programs across multi-site retail or service environments.
  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
  • Preferred Certifications: CSP, CHST, OSHA 30/510.

Expectations

  • Ability to travel regularly to store locations.
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments.
  • Able to conduct physical inspections and respond to emergencies as needed.

Job Environment

While carrying out job responsibilities, the employee may encounter hazardous or caustic chemicals and varying weather conditions. Work can take place both indoors in an office setting and outdoors in extreme temperatures. The employee might also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, flammable materials, and occasional vibrations. Noise levels can sometimes be loud. This role involves working in both office and external environments, with site travel being necessary. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Compensation

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other job-related qualifications. For the purpose of this role, the salary opportunity is:

PAY - $120,000 to $150,000 annually.
