Production Manager

Great Barrington Public Theater
Falmouth, MA

For seven seasons, Great Barrington Public Theater (GBPT) has been creating bold, original theater in the Berkshires. Our mission is to develop and produce new plays with a focus on playwrights and theater artists living in and nearby the region. GBPT’s productions spark conversation, curiosity, and connection.

Each summer, GBPT produces three fully staged productions in Great Barrington, MA. During the off-season, we focus on our developmental program,Berkshire Voices, hosting four to five free public readings annually.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Production Manager to oversee and coordinate all design and production elements for our summer season and special events.

About the Role

The Production Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all technical and production aspects of GBPT’s productions. This role works closely with directors, designers, stage management, venue partners, and outside production vendors to ensure smooth, on-time, and on-budget productions.

A key aspect of this role for this season is creating theater in a non-traditional performance space. Productions take place in a flexible venue that is not a conventional theater, requiring creative problem-solving, adaptability, and close coordination with venue partners to transform the space for rehearsals, performances, and special events.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with directors and designers to support the creation of scenic, properties, costume, lighting, and sound designs, ensuring alignment with artistic goals, budgets, and labor constraints.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the production team and Saint James Place, including the scheduling and facilitating of production meetings with directors, designers and technical staff

  • Manage, track, and report all production expenses to the Managing Director, ensuring budgets are adhered to and documentation is complete.

  • Plan and coordinate load-ins, strikes, and technical rehearsals for each production.

  • Work closely with the Stage Managers to support rehearsal and performance needs and ensure logistical requirements are met for creative and technical teams.

  • Coordinate and schedule load-ins and strikes, currently staffed and executed by Berkshire Production Resources (BPR), providing appropriate oversight.

  • Coordinate the construction of scenic elements and properties, currently managed by BPR.
