Position Summary:
The Product Manager for Laser Driven Light Sources (LDLS) is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the development and commercialization of LDLS products and systems. This role drives new product initiatives by identifying target customers and applications, conducting market research, defining product requirements and specifications, establishing pricing and margin targets, and leading integrated plans for successful product launches.
The Product Manager also develops and executes marketing strategies for LDLS products across digital and traditional channels and serves as the primary product expert and advocate for the LDLS and Integrated Systems portfolio with both internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with Sales to engage OEM customers, managing and process specifications, customer-specific requests, reliability issues, and feedback.
- Define and execute product strategy, including product roadmaps and lifecycle plans.
- Identify and drive opportunities for market share growth.
- Own product positioning, pricing, profitability, configuration control, and lifecycle management.
- Lead market research efforts, monitor activity, and translate customer needs into actionable requirements.
- Act as the primary product spokesperson to global Hamamatsu and distributor sales organizations, influencing strategy and execution to achieve business objectives.
- Provide strategic, technical, and pricing guidance in support of sales proposals.
- Contribute to pricing strategies based on detailed product cost models and company margin targets.
- Develop Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and lead the product development process within defined budget and cost constraints.
- Support new product introductions by analyzing requirements, preparing ROI analyses, and coordinating schedules with engineering and manufacturing.
- Create and deliver marketing and sales enablement materials, including presentations, datasheets, promotional content, and training materials.
- Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), and Customer Special Requests to ensure alignment with customer and market requirements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to support inventory planning, production scheduling, and product availability.
- Work cross-functionally to establish pricing that meets specific customer needs while aligning company objectives.
- Communicate effectively with customers and highly technical internal teams to document and translate requirements for internal stakeholders.
- Take a proactive leadership role in resolving technical and business-related customer issues.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including trip reports, expense reports, and sales-related reports.
- Represent the company professionally in all customer interactions, presenting capabilities and proposals with credibility and confidence.
- Maintain current knowledge of product and service offerings to deliver technically accurate solutions.
- Participate in selected conferences and exhibitions, building brand awareness and strengthening relationships with targeted accounts and industry stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in customer-facing roles involving highly technical products, such as product management, sales, or product marketing.
- OEM experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Semiconductor Capital Equipment or Critical Subsystems is a plus.
- Demonstrated success converting prospects into revenue-generating customers through new products or new market opportunities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Access databases preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Solid financial acumen, including experience with ROI analysis and cost-of-ownership models.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead initiatives and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic with the flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet customer and business objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Experience with Salesforce CRM is a plus.
The compensation salary range for this role is $100,500 to $123,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
