Case Supervisor/Case Manager

CASA Project Inc.
Worcester, MA

ABOUT CASA AND THE ADVOCATE SUPERVISOR ROLE:

CASA Project Worcester County provides a highly specialized volunteer service to abused and neglected children who are in the juvenile court system. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national organization with over 900 local programs across the country whereby volunteer advocates are recruited, trained, and supervised by program staff. CASA advocates are considered to be the eyes and ears of the court in child abuse proceedings.

The purpose of the Advocate Supervisor position is dual: 1) to assist in the training, assignment, and evaluation of CASA volunteers and closely supervise their work with assigned youth, preparing files for court, advising the judge on services and recommendations for children in foster care, in legal reports prepared for Juvenile Court Judges; 2) to assist with special projects as they relate to comprehensively supporting CASA youth, development and community outreach endeavors, and volunteer recruitment, appreciation, and retention.

While this is primarily a traditional office-hours role (EST), the position does require some evening and weekend commitments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise, support, and mentor volunteer advocates:

  • Supervise assigned volunteers in day-to-day case management
  • Assist volunteers in the preparation of court reports
  • Attend case staffing’s and court hearings with assigned volunteers
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of assigned volunteers and discuss with Executive Director or the Program Manager
  • Inform the Executive Director or Program Manager of volunteer training needs
  • Act as a liaison for volunteers and other case-related individuals and/or agencies

Case management:

  • Manage case statistics; provide data for requisite reports
  • Maintain case files and reports to ensure timeliness and accuracy
  • Coordinate schedule relative to court dates and report deadlines
  • Provide case coverage during volunteer absence and/or for colleagues as needed
  • Ensure clear and responsive written and verbal communication with volunteers, stakeholders, and colleagues
  • Assume ownership of cases and provide such clerical support as may be required to meet standards for audits or other oversight activities

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Interface with community and state partners and resource agencies
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training (initial and ongoing), engagement, and retention
  • Support projects relative to development and community outreach efforts
  • Participate in regular programmatic staff meetings
  • Participate in regular all-staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human services or nonprofits preferred. Experience in the following areas will be given preference: training, volunteer supervision and management, child welfare, and project management.
  • Skills necessary for success in this position include interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, written, and oral communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, leadership, and computer/technology skills. Awareness of community resources available to foster children and knowledge about current foster care, child abuse, and child advocacy issues is also needed. An Advocate Supervisor should be self-motivated, flexible, goal-oriented, creative, and resourceful. Most importantly, they should have a sense of mission for social justice and children’s issues.
