Laboratory Coordinator - LC25-26772
Job Title: Laboratory Coordinator
Location: Hyannis, MA
Duration: 13 Weeks Contract
Schedule: Monday to Friday (1:00 PM – 9:00 PM or 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM) with rotating weekends and holidays
Pay Rate: $20 – $30 per hour (based on experience)
We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Coordinator to support daily laboratory operations by managing laboratory information and specimen processing. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely communication, accurate data handling, and superior customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, medical staff, and fellow employees.
Data Entry: Handle data entry tasks including order entry, result entry, log review, and related functions.
System Support: Operate and troubleshoot lab information systems, ensuring continuity through backup systems as needed.
Communication: Answer phones, relay messages, and provide accurate information about testing and results.
Specimen Handling: Coordinate with technical staff regarding specimen adequacy, cancellations, test add-ons, and prioritization.
Specimen Distribution: Verify and distribute incoming specimens to the appropriate lab sections, accounting for special handling requirements.
Shipping & Documentation: Prepare specimens for shipment, manage transportation logistics, and ensure accurate documentation.
Inventory Management: Maintain inventory levels, place orders for stock items, and manage incoming supplies.
Confidentiality: Uphold patient and institutional confidentiality at all times.
Teamwork: Foster positive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
Cleanliness & Safety: Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety protocols.
Policy Adherence: Follow hospital and departmental policies, including safety and emergency procedures.
Quality Assurance: Assist in QA data collection and process improvement projects.
Specimen Processing: Support pre-analytic processes including labeling, aliquoting, and prioritization.
Culture & Blood Specimens: Process and prepare specimens, including inoculation of cultures and phlebotomy tasks.
General Duties: Perform glassware and area cleaning duties, and other lab-related tasks as needed.
Identification: Wear facility-provided ID badge at all times during working hours.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Prior experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting preferred
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and specimen processing preferred
Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions
Commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity
